The Caribbean Island of St. Lucia
St. Lucia is Zanshin’s new permanent home. I had become somewhat disillusioned with the BVI. My perception was that the conditions were getting worse with each season. Thus I decided to relocated, but this was during COVID-19 in 2021. I initially chose St. Lucia due to their COVID-19 testing requirements. The BVI had great delays between testing and giving results, meaning that any test I could take there would already be invalid for use by the time I got the results. And at that time I’d still be in the BVI and would need to travel, which adds at least a day. St. Lucia would allow entry with no test, I would take it upon arrival and self-quarantine on the boat until the results came back.
Rodney Bay marina is a very well-protected one and they offer discounts for long-term residents and storage. While nominally still in the hurricane zone, the likelihood of a big one hitting here is small. Much smaller than further north.
While the island is a poor one, it has a friendly people and great scenery. Shopping is expensive and selection is limited. While everyone at the docks is a “master and expert” at any type of task you might want to have done, the reality is that they are far from it. Complicated technical issues should generally be handled elsewhere
