2022-11-25 Heating up the credit card

Early Morning

Today I spent time heating up the credit card. I woke up too early today and started by making some of my home-roasted coffee in my Hario V60. This is a new addition to my coffee-making arsenal.  Suitably caffeinated I tried doing a home-office workday, but the internet was far too slow. I think that they’ve capped bandwidth as the docks aren’t particularly full. They will fill up in 2 weeks or so when the 2022 ARC racers show up.

Shopping

I headed over to the Baywalk Mall and got a SIM-Card for my MiFi device with a generous 100Gb data allotment. This should be sufficient for quite a bit of work from the boat if I’m careful about my internet activity. Another store provided a USB-C cable, which I seem to have either misplaced or forgotten back in Germany.

The Gourmet Massy supermarket was happy to take my credit card in exchange for a few groceries.  The credit card is already heating up. This was just a “warm-up” session before the big provisioning run.

Afternoon

I went shopping at Massy once my credit card had cooled down sufficiently and got more groceries. After stowing everything, I made some cheese crackers for a lunchtime and afternoon snack. The weather wasn’t optimal to clean the decks or put up the Bimini, so I just read a book in the shade.

Dinner

Going to a restaurant for dinner held no appeal to me, so I made a simple meal in the galley. Spicy noodles in spicy sauce – making use of the local peppers. That and a glass wine completed my repast.

I wasn’t in the mood to go ashore again, so I remained aboard and tried to do a bit of work on the generator, but soon gave up. The Friday Night Jump Up hadn’t gotten underway before I was in bed and fast asleep.

until dinner. Which I cooked aboard and didn’t go out again. This allowed the heated up credit card to cool down a bit.

  1. Hi Arnt – I remember that view as well from last year! You’re active again and I envy you, sitting here boatless again… and looking for a new full keel world sailor. Hopefully we’ll cross wakes again soon sometime soon but right now Im looking at grey skies and snow 🙁

    1. Hello Dirk!! I didn’t know that you’d even had your boat for sale, much less that you’d managed to sell her. Congratulations, I guess. You really should look into a more modern fin-keeled vessel; there’s a reason that there are now more of us than traditional full-keeled behemoths. The docks are filling up here and the first ARC racers are due to arrive next week.

  2. Like they say, the 2 happiest days for a sailor are selling the old boat and buying a new one.

  3. I’ve heard that one before and it is certainly true. While there are some great boat names out there, my favorite name is “Never Again III”. Someone with both a sense of humour and a boat buying problem.
