Who am I?

Arnd - Who am I

Arnd Sailing

The title is an existential question whose answer I wish I knew.

Here’s what little I do know: My name is Arnd and I was born in Germany, grew up in Canada and Japan and then went to college in the USA. Then I returned to Germany so that I could attend college again, but this time in German. I ended up working in the computer industry for hardware manufacturers and software companies. This was during the 80’s and 90’s so it was a crazy time indeed with lots of mergers and acquisitions and of course the “dot com” bubble. I once worked for 5 different companies without having changed jobs or desk a single time. I took a chance and branched out to create my own company, which I ended up selling and now I continue doing consulting work in the realm of big data for part of the year and spend the rest of my time sailing aboard Zanshin.

Single-handed sailing adventures in the CaribbeanWhile I can’t answer the “Who am I?” question, I can answer the “Where am I?“” one. It is a comfortable life, whenever I get sick of hearing Reggae and the lap of waves around the boat and want to put on shoes again I head back to a new consulting project. And when I start dreaming of sand between my toes and bland Caribbean beer, I end my project and return to being a beach bum. It is truly the best of two worlds. I enjoy photography, and one advantage of being behind the lens is that I’m seldom in front of it and hence there aren’t that many pictures of me. But images of the Caribbean are quite a bit more photogenic than am I, so that’s no great loss.

I have been following you for many years. Not sure exactly when I found your site originally . But I think around 2013 or 2014.??. That’s is when we got to go to the BVI for a wonderful week long sail and snorkeling trip. I look forward each year reading about your adventures and wanted to say thank you for taking the time to share them. Will this be your new site?

  2. Hello, Mr. Arnd!
My name is Mario and i have a problem with injection pump on my TDI-100 VW/Mercruiser marine engine. I read thet you solved the same problem with the injection pump from the car. Please, do you know the code of the that pump? Thank you!

    1. Hello Mario,

I think that the fuel pump on my TDI-150 is a different one from yours, the part I got can still be found at

  3. Hello,

We noticed that you took some amazing photos of a boat called Nemo when it won a delivery race from Antigua to Bermuda. I work for Morrelli & Melvin who are a big piece in designing these boats and wanted to reach out and see if we could have the rights to be able to post those photos on our website? I have a photo release that would need to be signed and we would give you credit. Please let me know!

    Thank you,
