Description
St. Martin is the official name of the French side of the island. The Dutch side is called Sint Maarten. Both sides have their distinct vibe and flair. The French side is more laid back and slower-paced with good food, the Euro, and is less affluent. The Dutch side has more condos, tourism, casinos and nightlife.
I spend a lot of time on the French side, particularly in Grand Case. I used to anchor in Marigot, the main city; but crime has gone up. Plus, they now have strange rules and payment schedules, so I’ve stayed away in recent years.
