Most of the content and pages on this site are to be found right here in the blog section. I’ve kept a daily blog since 2009 for the times I’ve been aboard and cruising. I’ve accumulated over 1500 posts over the years, plus numerous non-diary pages. Almost every day has a descriptive text entry (my family-safe online diary) along with several pictures.
Unfortunately, due to a hosting issue, the blog pages prior to 2022 have lost both their initial layout and formatting, making them read more like a book page rather than a web page. But at least the texts and pictures are still there for your viewing pleasure.

This site revolves around sailing and cruising in the Caribbean; therefore, this section has the most entries. Everything apart from the blog pages that has anything to do with sailing can be found somewhere in this menu list.

The generator is dripping diesel despite our best efforts while we struggle to effect repairs

2017-03-08

The skipper of this big heavy boat ran aground hard (evidently she hadn't looked at the chart or depth sound) and it took 3 tenders an hour to pull her off. Then they had various attempts at anchoring, including one next to me, which weren't working as the boat was in the middle of the channel. I saw them put out fenders so perhaps they opted to go to a dock

The media representatives aboard are interviewing our Race Officer, Rob, about the racing

2017-03-03

The strong and gusty winds had managed to turn the dinghy over at night, and getting it right-side-up with the engine still attached was a bigger effort than I'd thought.

I didn't catch the name of this elegant ketch leaving the docks at Falmouth in Antigua

2017-02-25

The docks are pretty full at Falmouth Harbour, with more sailboats than powerboats this time around and those tall masts are impressive

2017-02-24

While the waters look calm, there's a long swell coming into the bay which is rocking the boats on my side of the anchorage

2017-02-23

The island of St. Martin is way behind me, invisible but for the clouds it generates.

2017-02-22

The yellow line is 80 feet or so long and allows me to tow the dinghy, outboard removed, in most sea conditions

Gun Creek

2017-02-20

A school of small fry is being fed upon by a school of some other somewhat larger fish. The waters around Zanshin are boiling and noise of splashing is what brought me out to check what was going on.

The brackish water of the small salt pond smooth on this almost windless day

2017-02-18

This wall is composed of 8 pieces of wood which are easily removed to convert the two cabins into a large single cabin

Sandy Spit break

2017-02-16

I departed the docks unassisted so I removed the fore- and aft spring lines and singled up the bow and stern lines so I could slip them off from the boat

The mast with the new (and shiny) D3s

One of the D3 stays removed by Richardson's. The barberpoling indicates rusted or broken internal wires.

Repairing a slow leak in the Jabsco main head. Adding a bit of silicone sealant to the groove of the O-Ring to make a good seal.
