Race Day 1

Today marked the beginning of the Antigua Sailing Week, and the starts were held outside of English Harbour, with the destination a set of buoys off Green Island. This is an upwind course and a bit of a slog against the waves in normal conditions. Luckily, the waves weren’t bad, and the light wind made for comfortable, if slow, sailing.

Meredith and I hovered around the start line at the pin end to watch the classes start off. Once all the classes had started, we hoisted our sails aboard Zanshin and sailed up the coast as well.

Instead of anchoring in the main anchorage with all the racers, we slipped around the corner and found a great spot in my favorite little bay. Once safely tethered to the sandy bottom, we took the dinghy around and joined the festivities ashore.
