2026-04-06 Zed’s Arrival

Sleep

or lack of it. My toe throbbed last night, and while not extraordinarily painful, every movement in bed caused it to flare up. I didn’t sleep as well as I should have. I’ve dressed the wound, and only half the toenail is gone; the remaining part looks like it won’t last. The cut on the foot bed is healing, but I’ll have to be careful with it for a bit as it does take my not inconsiderable body weight.

Morning, Scene I

I’m drinking my coffee this morning and procrastinating the final cleaning jobs. I did find 3 nitrile gloves in my electrical box (why did I put some in there?), but I can utilize those for my work with Clorox.

I’ve drunk the first coffee and am now making my second cuppa. That will give me energy to start my work aboard Zanshin. Zed has messaged me that he was in the process of boarding at JFK airport in New York for his non-stop flight to Antigua.

Morning, Scene II

The first scene had me play through my collection of Bo Diddley songs. The next on the alphabetical list is Bob Dylan. I’ve got a lot of Dylan, so this might take me all the way to lunch. I’ve changed my bandage because it was leaking a bit and messing up my floor-cleaning progress.

My little mini vacuum cleaner is doing a good job at sucking up the detritus from months of storage and subsequent foot traffic.

Change of Plans

I’d just gotten Zed’s bed made when Rana called up and told me that they needed an extra berth aboard Zanshin starting tomorrow. This is unplanned, as the forward electric head is still leaking. But the parts are available at Budget Marine, and they open tomorrow morning. So, I had to take the head assembly apart to see which parts were needed and to speed up the assembly on the morrow.

Lunch break

I found a frozen beer which isn’t drinkable yet. It is thawing slowly on the counter and should be somewhat slushy shortly, and will slake my thirst. I changed from Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen while working on the head assembly. I thought it would give me a bit more energy.

I’m now showered, and I’ve renewed my toe bandage. Zed messaged an hour ago that he’d landed but hasn’t messaged since. I believe he might still be in line at either immigration or waiting for his bag. I’ve done as much cleaning as I feel comfortable with and am resting up now.
