2023-01-11 Burning the midnight oil

Early morning meetings and generator repairs filled my day today, padded with miscellaneous other work.

I began burning the midnight oil at 03:30 and had several hours of meetings before the sun rose here in Antigua. I worked with the new development software and am busy creating bug reports.

The winds have died to almost nothing, with two main effects. First, it is getting warm belowdecks. Second, the boats at anchor now lie sideways to the waves and even the big boys are rolling around.

Time to pull the fuel moderator again. That went much faster this time, I only needed a half turn with the tool and after that I could use my fingers to unscrew the fastener. But the motor still won’t start.

While I was at it, I removed the fuel lines between the pump and the injectors and cleaned them.

Afternoon

Sometimes one just need to cut losses and carry on. That is what I’m doing with the generator. I fear that the injection pump has, like the dead parrot, decided to shuffle off this mortal coil. But the solenoid and fuel lift pump are still in contention; of course the likely cause is by far the most expensive to repair. But I’m now willing to let a professional do the rest of the work, I’ve reached my limit.

The winds are down and it is raining quite a bit. Even though I’d needed to re-anchor further away from the Oyster yacht close by, two other boats have now anchored even closer and I’m a bit worried about what is going to happen when the winds pick up again.

Evening

I’m not willing to go ashore in the rain, so I think I’ll make a simple pasta dinner aboard. Plus I’ve got to catch up on some sleep tonight, and while I’d love to play along at tonight’s Pub Quiz Night at Club Sushi, I fear I’d fall asleep somewhere during round 2 and start snoring, much to the amusement of the participants…
