Nighttime

Today is a wonderful Friday in Rodney Bay and the weekend is almost here. The anchorage is still rolling from the swells wrapping around Pigeon Island, but it seems to have settled a bit. Or perhaps I’m just getting acclimatized again. What I did note both this night and the previous one was that my dreams were vivid. I’ve experienced that at sea as well. I normally don’t recall much of my dreams, so this is a change indeed.

The fruits from my basket will make for a healthy breakfast and I’ll offset that with some less wholesome caffeine. Small showers are passing overhead and when I hear those first drops of rain I need to rush and close the 4 big hatches to prevent water inside.

Once the airflow stops it gets hot and humid belowdecks. Then, once the hatches are open again, the breeze coming through the cabin makes for a perfect temperature. I can’t see the need for A/C when at anchor as long as that coconut breeze is flowing.

Using such data-heavy applications as Teams and Webex for video calls chews through my data plan rather quickly. Normal remote work on the virtual computer screen is surprisingly efficient. My only issue with this connection is occasional latency issues, when I click on an object or type text the feedback on the screen is sometimes very slow. This causes me to occasionally re-click an item or retype text and then realize it is showing up double. There are certainly worse problems.

I am going to look into Starlink RV for internet access, I’ve heard so many good things about it.

Going ashore at Rodney Bay, I walked to the Baywalk Mall and looked for some hiking sandal and couldn’t find any good ones. Ultimately, I got what looked like an acceptable pair and returned to the marina for lunch and a bit of shopping.

After finishing office work for the day, I finally approached some of my outstanding tasks. First, the fenders and lines drying on the foredeck needed stowing. Then my inflatable paddleboard needed attention, and my first attempts were not very pretty. But I made it back and celebrated my successful ride with a happy-hour Piton beer. Or two…

I’e decided to remain aboard tonight since today is a Friday in Rodney Bay and I’ll keep the earplugs handy, the local “jump up” is going to be loud and go on until about 4AM! I’ve got the dinghy locked up; the inflatable paddleboard remains at risk, but I know that it has a low black-market resale value.

I neglected to thaw out any of my meat, so will just make some pasta or rice with sauce and eggs for dinner. Luckily, I did put my beer in the refrigerator to cool down. This more than make up for the lack of dietary balance in the rest of the meal.
