Today was a great day for laying back and relaxing, decompressing after the rigors of Antigua Sailing Week. I haven’t been able to connect to the internet from the boat for over a week and my morning goal was to go ashore and get a SIM card so that I would have connectivity aboard once more.
Before that, I soaked up some more diesel from the generator spill. I’ve pinched off the fuel line to prevent more diesel leaking, but there are several litres in the pan underneath the generator and also in the bilge compartment underneath. I’m using Oil Mats to soak up the fuel but am slowly running out and will have to replenish my supplies shortly.
Once ashore I found that the small shop that sells SIM cards is closed and the vendors next to it couldn’t tell me when it would open. I did visit Alison at the National Sailing Academy and she got me a Google phone with data, which I’ll try aboard Zanshin.
Alec and Rosie were officiating a private dinghy racing event at Pigeon Point beach and I joined them at Catherine’s Café ashore, but as it was a sponsored event I didn’t eat the meal but couldn’t resist having some of the dessert.
I had trouble with the internet and will need a separate card, but did get a bit of cleaning work done on the generator in the late afternoon and I read a bit of my book. Just one more day at anchor in Antigua, soaking up the rays of the sun and ingesting the warmth of the Caribbean. It could be a lot worse, despite the maintenance chores I did aboard today.
