Taking a tour of the Hamburg port area by boat

Taking a water tour of the Hamburg port on the Elbe

Hamburger StadtwappenI was in Hamburg, Germany in March 2011 in order to teach a class and was in the city over the weekend. The weather on Sunday was beautiful and sunny so I decided that I’d join the masses streaming towards the dock lands and see if I could find a seat at a café somewhere and soak up the sun. Once I got out of the subway at the docks I saw the numerous tour boats and the famous docks across the river so I opted to play tourist for a day and take one of the tours. I chose one of the smaller boats and got a seat in the open air to the aft of the boat and was very happy that I’d decided to take my camera along for the day.
Hamburg is the northernmost and westernmost metropolis in Germany, at 1.8 million inhabitants it is the 2nd largest city in the country, eclipsed only by the nation’s capital city Berlin (3.4 million) and followed by Munich (or München with 1.3 million inhabitants) and then by Cologne (Köln) at just under a million and then Frankfurt am Main with a distant 670,000 people – almost only a village.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
