I used the free power and air-conditioned comfort below decks to give the boat a good vacuum and cleaning from front to back, and even though the marina’s Wi-Fi was down I did pick up a signal so used that to complete the windows update for my system as well as the Linux upgrade to my Raspberry Pi computer. I walked around outside a bit and found that the car rental agency was open so completed the rental formalities but left the car where it was since I wasn’t sure that I’d find a parking space quite as close to the dock if I moved it.
Sandra and Sascha were on Air France’s flight arriving at 15:30 and I left the marina in good time to make it for their early arrival, at least that is what the flight tracking site told me. I only took one wrong turn getting to the airport and was too early but at least the terminal building was air-conditioned. They had a scary approach as the pilot was forced to do a last-minute aborted landing and go-around due to potential wake turbulence from landing too soon after another “heavy” (from my flying days, I know how rough that wake can be) but in the end they had arrived safely, their baggage had actually accompanied them and they were out of 0°C temperatures back home!
I’d purchased some sparkling wine weeks before in St. Martin and it had been occupying valuable fridge space so we decided to free up that space by having two bottles aboard the boat before going on a walk around the docks – the other docks, since my dock only has powerboats. By then the sun had set and we headed straight to an early dinner at the Zoo Rock Café close to the marina. The steak skewers were very tasty and quite large and the combination of jet lag, lots of travel, alcohol and a heavy meal put both Sandra and Sascha in the right frame of mind for sleep.
