I had seen that the Four Seasons hotel had strong Wi-fi, but hadn’t tried it because I assumed that it would be locked with passwords linked to room numbers. But in the morning I decided to give it a go and was amazed and pleasantly surprised to get a powerful connection that was faster than was what I’d become accustomed to. I used the connection to do my online clearance and waited until 09:00 to go ashore and clear in. I’m glad I waited, as the customs officer was just going up to the office as I arrived and I was his first customer of the day. All 3 offices (customs, immigration and port authority) are next to each other now and clearing in took about a half hour including some conversations with the officers in their 3 offices. I got a recommendation for a tour guide operator, &£8220;Sarge’s Taxi&£8221; and we spoke on the phone – he had 2 customers at 14:00 for a tour and I could join it and come along.
At 14:00 I dinghied ashore and found that the 2 customers were a French couple from the boat next to mine! And it turns out that they didn’t speak much English at all so I had to dig out my rusty French and try to do a bit of translating as Sarge took us on the tour of the island. Culturally and historically there’s a lot less to see here on Nevis than on the bigger neighbor, St. Kitts so we got a tour of several old plantations that had been turned into hotels and it was a bit monotonous towards the end; but interesting nonetheless.
After the tour we had a drink before returning to our respective boats for afternoon libations and dinner.
