2015 Trip 2015-04-16

Today marked the departure of Corinna, Alyssa, Nick and Sascha on Air France. They didn’t have to board until 14:30 and had already gotten their seat assignments during online check in, so once we’d rented a car for the day we headed off to the airport in order to drop off the luggage. We opted to see their flight land from the Sunset Bar and also had some lunch at the bar while waiting for the flight arrival. It was, as usual, somewhat late and we watched several other planes land and take off before their flight was on final approach. The approach and landing of such a big beast seen from directly underneath was pretty impressive! After that I dropped them off at the departure gate and we said our good-byes; I hope that they had a fun time while here and that their acclimatization aboard Zanshin will make any turbulence they encounter on the return flight seem inconsequential.

After dropping them off I got into the usual traffic jam and headed to Kooyman’s hardware store to get a wrench for the heating element and some other bits of hardware. After that I visited Cost-U-Less for groceries and the re-joined the heavy traffic for the trip back to the boat, which I arrived at about 16:30 – too late to return to the airport and watch their flight takeoff, unfortunately.

I ended up staying aboard for both happy hour and dinner – a quiet night indeed after the past two weeks; the boat seems rather empty now. Just to keep things interesting, the generator stopped running when I fired it up to charge the batteries (the day had been mostly cloudy) due to “high temperature” which means that I need to replace the impeller, once again. Luckily I’ve got battery reserves for the night and much of the following day if the sun decides to put in an appearance.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
