Although conditions were perfect for a light sail today, Alyssa opted to stay at the apartment to read today while the others joined me for a short sail to Friar’s Bay (Anse de Anse de Pères) just around the corner from Grand Case. The beach was full and there were was a bit of a musical cacophony with at least two loud stereo systems competing with each other for loudest music. Since they were all playing different music it was a just an indistinguishable muddle by the time the sounds hit us in the anchorage. At times we couldn’t even hear our own music aboard.
Nick and Sascha unpacked my stand-up paddleboard and we filled it from the big electric pump in the dinghy garage and gave it the final bit of top-up from the manual pump that came with the board. All of us, in turn, got an opportunity to lose our balance and fall into the water while trying to master that rather unstable platform! I managed to get going, but was then afraid to slow down in fear of losing dynamic stability and falling into the water, so by the time I had managed to head towards shore, turn around, and return to the boat I was knackered.
We had some snacks for lunch and generally just lounged on the boat, apart from Nick who had enough energy to spare for all of us. In the mid-afternoon the two boats between us and the beach left and soon thereafter we, too, realized that the music was just too loud; perhaps the other boats had been giving us acoustical shade or the volume ashore had been turned up, so we weighed anchor and returned to our selected spot back in Grand Case.
For dinner we all opted for a Pizza at the end of the main drag in Grand Case, and despite an heroic effort on my part to eat my very tasty meal, I still had something left over on the plate – those were very big pizzas indeed.
