2015 Trip 2015-04-02

I arranged to meet my friends in the morning at “their̵ beach and left my dinghy anchored several feet offshore rather than at the dinghy dock in town. My car was still unscathed outside the gates and we headed off on a tour of the island via car. Included was a trip to the airport to see the KLM Boeing 747 land from the beach itself, but I’d chosen a bad a day on which no such flight was scheduled, it turns out that they had switched from high to shoulder season on April 1st! After the airport trip we went into Le Grand Marché for some grocery shopping, as tomorrow is a holiday and all of the stores are going to be closed. I stocked up on fresh produce and cheeses for Zanshin and should be set for a couple of days, I even re-stocked on beer as somehow my fridge no longer contained any drinkable stuff, although it still holds a six-pack of Heineken cans that I’ll give away to visitor who find it palatable.

After returning the purchases to the rental apartment, Sascha and I returned the car to the local rental agent and walked back to the other end of Grand Case; we then decided that they needed the grand tour of Zanshin which was quickly finished and we opted to postpone our first days ail by a day and just lounged aboard for a while; although Alyssa wasn’t doing too well with the slow rocking motion of the boat at anchor and I couldn’t dishearten her in telling her that the rocking and rolling at sail, on a sailboat, with sails up, in real seas rather than a calm anchorage, was going to be a bit worse.

For dinner we ended up going to Talk of the Town LoLo (Locally-owned-locally-operated) restaurant for a filling meal, the two kids went back to the apartment and the parents and I ended up at Calmos Café to listen to some live Salsa music. After the first set they returned to their flat and I went to the dinghy dock, only to discover that someone had removed my line from the dock and my dinghy was calmly lying to about 20 feet from the dock under the kedge anchor. Since nobody was about to help me with another dinghy, I stripped down and dove into the water to swim to my abandoned dinghy. At least the water was warm.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
