2015 Trip 2015-02-09

After a night of fitful sleep, due to jet-lag, I had the pleasure of reacquainting myself with island coffee, which combines the worst aspect of American percolated coffee, the type which has been bubbling away since the early 1960’s, and misroasted Espresso. The taste is distinctive and whenever I get the same coffee elsewhere it immediately conjures up images of BVI restaurant coffee. After my caffeine fix in the morning I walked to the boat and met Eric, who was just about to begin work on the boat. He still had to finish some of the stainless on deck and do a final wash down.

While he worked away outside I was sweating profusely below decks. I knew I had a 250V 32A plug which I could use to hook the boat up to electric power in the yard and proceed to charge the batteries. I went through the storage areas multiple times with no luck, although I did find some things which I’d presumed lost. The local chandleries at Nanny Cay had connectors for 125V systems, but nothing that would fit my specific connector. I took out the other 2 solar panels to augment the one working one, but they put out a maximum of 15A, and a realistic average of 10A. At 10 hours per day that is a 100Ah per day, which means it would take 5 days to charge the bank if I didn’t use any of that power in the interim.

I knew that I needed a rental car so that I could head to town and get the correct power plug as well as start provisioning “Zanshin”. But all the rental companies that I called were booked out. I’d worked my way all the way down the list when I realized I’d skipped “ITGO”, from whom I’d rented in the past. They did have a car available starting tomorrow, bigger and more expensive than what I wanted but I was in a bind and needed transportation so I accepted.

I went through the boat yet again, searching, but had no luck. Despite drinking water I was getting dehydrated since I had no air moving below decks and no power for the fans. The wind outside was coming from the side, so the hatches didn’t provide much ventilation. But it still beat being in the cold and wet wind of Hamburg.

Sun downers were at Peg Legs again, but I then showered and headed across to Captain Mulligan’s for a light BLT dinner before collapsing in my air-conditioned hotel room for the night.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
