2014 Trip 2014-05-18

I got going early in the morning with the intention of sailing to one of the Dog Islands and get some diving done, then continuing on to the North Sound for the night. I had such fun sailing in the calm seas and 15 knot winds that I kept on sailing around much of the day, and only noticed that I’d torn the leech of my genoa when approaching the North Sound. I think it had just happened, but I’m not quite certain when or how it did. The leech might have caught the spreader on one of my many tacks that day, or it might have ripped for other reasons. In any case I have a sail repair to make in the near future!

Coming into the narrow North Sound entrance in light winds I was just a few feet behind a new Lagoon 440 and we both sailed upwind in the Sound at about the same speed and angle. I had a reef in the mainsail but full (and ripped) genoa out and would have thought I could pull ahead. The winds stiffened and I suddenly made much better speed than they did and sailed almost all the way to my accustomed anchoring spot off Prickly Pear island.

I went to Saba Rock for Happy Hour but was rather dismayed to see that my 2 Presidente beers were $5.50 apiece plus tips; which is a pretty steep price indeed and I don’t think I’ll be heading back there for a bit, at least not at Happy Hour when for $3.50 I could drink a Painkiller! They’ve taken my favourite bar meal off the menu as well, the beef tacos and the only items on the bar menu left for me are an assortment of burgers, which I may try later in the week.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
