Today Katzenellenbogen and Zanshin relocated from St. Kitts to Nevis, a short trip as the crow flies across the tip of St. Kitts and The Narrows between the two islands and thence to the mooring field at Pinney’s beach on the island of Nevis. We had some good winds and both of us tacked several times to make it to our destination. Although I was always 2 knots faster when we were close and on the same tack, they made some better decisions as to when to tack and we arrived at our destination at the same time. I had thought that going offshore would give me better and cleaner winds but I slowed down to 4 knots and barely limped back to the stronger winds close to shore!
Upon mooring I connected to the internet and tried to make my Bullet into a router, which was a mistake as I spent the next 2 hours trying to re-connect to the system and finally had to take the device apart to find the hardware reset button. Once connected again I didn’t experiment anymore but just completed my e-mails prior to joining Katz for a happy-hour drink ashore at Sunshine’s. While they had the renowned Killer Bee (a speciality rum punch) I stuck with a local beer which I didn’t get to taste since I was still suffering from a blocked nose from whatever allergy I had just developed. A local (stoned) character with a small vervet monkey came to our table and wanted us to take pictures of the monkey and mentioned (thrice) that he was thirsty and wanted a beer but that we shouldn’t pay for one for him – so we didn’t and he soon left for greener pastures. After our sojourn ashore we had a very tasty delicacy South African meal “Bobotie” (pronounced – boobootee, a traditional Cape Malay dish), but it was a chili-like mince meal with spices and a special Chutney imported all the way from South Africa.
