2013 Trip 2013-02-14

After dropping off the garbage at the new dump, situated rather from the beach and old dump and watching two peacocks battle it out for the favors of a lady I returned to the boat and set sail for Norman Island.
I wasn’t in a hurry and the wind looked low but blustery so I chose caution and comfort and put 3 reefs in the genoa and about 2 reefs in the main and headed towards the cut at Soper’s hole, almost making it but the angle of the wind wasn’t good so I motorsailed and put the genoa away since it was flapping at the close angle. I passed a charter boat at hailing distance and in response to their quizzical looks asking “How can you be passing us with just your mainsail up” I shouted across “I’m cheating and motorsailing” after which they probably felt a lot better about their boat’s performance. After passing Soper’s Hole the genoa came out and I once again turned into a sailboat, beating up the channel a bit before dropping sail in front of the Indians off Norman Island and taking a mooring ball (which took 3 attempts this time, as I was trying to finesse the job and kept on stopping the boat about 5 feet too soon).
I got out the diving gear and, with the 1/2 tank left over from cleaning the hull several days ago, did a quick dive which was further cut short or complicated by my mask strap coming off on the way down. It remain a simple dive to 20-30 feet in calm conditions where I could get back into practice while diving. I might dive the wreck of the Rhone tomorrow if I can remember to fill up the tank.
After the dive I rested aboard and used my cool darkened reading glasses for the first time; they let me read in the bright sunshine without discomfort and they did work very well indeed.
From the Indians to the anchorage at the Bight was just a short motor and I anchored in 20 feet and subsequently spent the time waiting for my steak to thaw out by putting in an eye splice in one of the mooring lines which not only let the steak warm up but also got me past the happy-hour bell at 17:00. Dinner was a simple affair, steak and couscous and a small baked potato.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
