Winter 2011-2012 Trip 2012-01-31

After last night it was a slow morning with some work on the computer accompanying a breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast and jam minus the bacon, toast and jam. I need to get some shopping done soon…
I dinghied over to the Dutch side again and sent the 1 page document to the U.K. via DHL – US$68 for one page and delivery in several days; that is awfully expensive but until I get that done I am stuck here in St. Martin as the provisional/temporary registration has expired. There are worse places to be stuck, so I shouldn’t whine.
I got another 40L of diesel and will see if I can optimise the transfer process this time around without spilling anything onto the decks or into the water. After the replenishing I attacked the Xantrex LinkPro display settings and found that they were not only a little, but completely wrong. The main battery system is 480Ah @ 24V but the system was set to 960Ah @ 12V which is the same amount of energy but the input and output amps are registered differently and the alarm voltages are quite different as well. Unfortunately, after correcting the setting the system requires that I synchronize which means that I need to run the generator for about 4 hours or more to get the batteries fully charged – I’ll use this time to make water (which, in turn, means I’ll have to change the filters frequently in this slightly dirty Marigot water), heat some water for a shower and do a load of laundry so that the generator is at least running under a bit of load much of the time. After 3 hours the charging amperage went down from 80A to a mere 30A, but I wanted to get something to eat so I broke off the synchronization process and will complete it tomorrow; plus I had to do the 2nd prefilter change on the watermaker and didn’t want to do a third change.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
