I am still working on completing the boat registration, now it turns out that the British Registry needs a signed single piece of paper from me stating that I’ve affixed a carving with the boat registration number and tonnage to the hull and have the name and home port outside; but they need an original and won’t accept a scanned .PDF file or fax. I went to the French post office and, after a very long wait, was told that airmail would take 8-10 days… if I was lucky. The alternative was to use the French courier system called Chronopost but they wanted €68 for a single sheet of paper so I am going to head off to UPS to get a similar service but at a fraction of the price.
I don’t want to head off to the fuel dock alone in these boisterous windy conditions, so I am going to fill up my fuel tank with successive trips with my 2 20L fuel canisters. I have a wonderful siphon system, but unfortunately the hose won’t fit in the canister and my little siphon, pictured below, took a bit over 30 minutes for one fuel tank due to the small diameter. I’m going to have to figure out something better if I want to continue with this refuelling plan.
A couple of days ago a German called Matthias arrived from the Canary islands after a 20 day solo sail in his Contessa 26 and as his dinghy has no engine and I’m sure he was looking for company and cheap drinks I went over and asked if he wanted to head out to Barnacle’s on the other side of the lagoon for happy hour and he came along; we stayed there a bit too long and I had not really eaten all day and those few beers hit me hard.
