Winter 2011-2012 Trip 2011-12-30

The wind picked up in the morning and I refused to let myself get pulled along with the crowds departing the North Sound in the early hours of the day, I was in no hurry to go anywhere so I turned on the generator for 2 hours and charged the batteries, ran the dishwasher, did a load of laundry, ran the watermaker (and had to replace the 2 filters for the second time as they’d become clogged) and cleaned up the kitchen after making a mess of it by frying bacon and getting splattering all over the galley surfaces. I did get to watch the antics of the catamaran kids which provided some relief but I still have a long list of small tasks left to do. Actually, instead of a list I put one item on a separate sticky-note and have them pasted to the wall of the navigation station. Somehow for every item I take down off the wall another 2 items go up…
I started on some of the tasks as I’d gotten enough sun and didn’t want to look like a boiled lobster and managed to fix the loose anchor bow roller system, which had almost fallen out last time I anchored and put a Turk’s Head knot onto the crown spoke of the starboard wheel so that I could feel where the rudder centre position is located instead of having to rely on the electronic instrumentation. Once I confirm that I’ve got the correct position I’ll repeat the procedure on the port wheel since the only way to fix it now is to cut the knot away and start again.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
