Winter 2011-2012 Trip 2011-12-23

One of the few pieces of equipment that wasn’t working aboard was my Spectra Newport watermaker, while everything seemed to be fine it wouldn’t produce water, the salinity meter always read “>875 PPM” for salt content; everything under 500 PPM (that stands for Part Per Million of salt) is considered acceptable. After going back and forth a bit with the dealer and Spectra they sent me a replacement membrane under warranty and the following pictures were taken as I replaced the membrane. At first I was a bit daunted by the arrangement as I thought I might have to take the whole system apart, but it turned out that with the right tools and a bit of unscrewing pieces it was quite an easy task and the whole process took about 3 hours from start to finish.

As they so often say, owning a sailboat is a great opportunity to repair things in exotic locations.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
