I slept well, but am essentially one-legged today as the wound has gotten infected despite my attempts at sterilizing my instruments yesterday and using lots of hydrogen peroxide during the extraction operation. It is quite hard to hop around when the boat is rolling and moving a bit; I might not sail out of here today after all but finish my preparations for leaving. While doing the dishes after my bacon and eggs (I finally remembered to take the alarm outside before setting it off) I saw a green tall ship come in and thought of the German commercials for Beck’s Bier but when I took the dinghy over later I saw that while it was a German flagged ship called Alexander von Humboldt it has nothing to do with beer. WAIT – I just read their website and it is indeed sponsored by Beck’s!!!!! So it is the tall ship from the commercials, minus all the pretty women and hardy young sailor quaffing alcoholic beverages… I decided to go ahead and get 4 dock lines flaked and my big fenders deployed on the port side and motor over Leverick bay in order to fill up the tank and fill up on water. The last time I’d been to a dock had been in early December (I think) and hadn’t filled water or fuel so it was about time. I took on 36 gallons of diesel which should fill the tank and only filled the 2 forward water tanks (for a total of 500l) as the aft tank still had 100 litres (to be frank, I would have filled that one too, but the hose wouldn’t reach that far). It took longer to get the boat set up and, after tanking, to get the lines coiled and the fenders stowed than it did to fill up, but docking the boat was easy as I was able to go forward into an inside berth and I could use the bow thruster to nudge myself into the dock. I’m now anchored off Leverick and will most likely head ashore in a bit in order to get some food and libations later on, after I separate some more stuff on the boat. 20:00 I did go ashore and see part of the happy hour show, met some people in person that I knew from the internet who live and travel on a boat called Gaiamar, then had a big pizza and wolfed it down far too fast so that I had to return to Zanshin I in order to digest it and didn’t have much opportunity to talk to people ashore! The wind was strong all night and there was quite a bit of chop coming in through the reef, I was comfortable at anchor and Zanshin I hardly moved around at anchor, but I would guess that the boats at the dock were rocking and rolling all night long.
