Another day in paradise – hot, muggy and little wind. I really need to get my generator repaired and cabin cleaned up, so I opted to stay at the dock yet one more day before departing for the clear waters of the BVI. At the time of writing it is 10:30 and I’ve only worked outside for about an hour getting the old adhesive on the dinghy removed, or at least trying to. But now I’ve gone back below decks and will do some work in the air-conditioned comfort of the cabin. Despite having the door open to the front cabin and the fan going, it is already 33°C in there despite the 25°C temp in the main cabin and I’ll forego cleaning and going there until the sun gets lower on the horizon at about 4pm.
At 16:30 I went on deck as planned and managed to get a lot of work done. I repaired the aft hatches, glued the dinghy back together and then spent 2 1/2 hours using a dilute solution of Oxalic acid to clean and bleach the teak decks and cockpit. Although the packaging specifies that gloves are mandatory, I didn’t use them and also walked barefoot in the solution and crawled around the decks on my knees. I hope that my skin doesn’t slough off tomorrow. I’m enjoying a cold Stella Artois (the store has run out of Carib beer) after chugging a litre of water and am very hungry, I think I am going to head to Mulligan’s for a juicy burger for dinner.
