Rise and Shine

I spent the first two hours drinking coffee and editing the pictures from last night. My notebook isn’t particularly powerful, so loading the pictures and converting from the Nikon NEF raw format to DNG takes a long time. Then, for the night pictures, I applied some automatic denoising in Adobe Lightroom, which takes even longer to process. After all the preparatory work, the editing and culling took up the time for my second cup of coffee.

I’d planned on leaving for Jolly Harbour this morning, but I’ve decided to remain here for one more day and get almost everything prepared for departure and storage. I’ve got the solar panels to install, those will trickle-charge my main battery bank. I’ll also see if I can hook up the small panels that I have to keep the house bank alive during storage.

My remote connection to my Roborock vacuum cleaner allowed me to have it do a quick run-through of the main floor to get it cleaned before my return.

Not only could I start the cleaning, but I could also follow it on the video camera in color and in real-time.

I managed to attach the solar panels to the deck and fasten them down in preparation for storage.

Then I finished sharpening knives, a task I’ve procrastinated on for weeks. I’ve got my razor honed again with a 10,000-grit stone, then worked on Mike’s Chef’s Knife with a 1000- and 3000-grit wet stone. A chunk was taken out of the blade in the middle of the cutting area, so it took a while to shave down the metal to remove that blemish.

Happy Hour

I’ve got a 6-pack of Amstel Bright beer left over from the last regatta and tapped into it for happy hour, as I’d run out of Long Bay. I still have 5 cans left, am still thirsty, and am trying to decide who to “gift” some beer to…

I’m packing my suitcase already. I decided to bring back a bottle of English Harbour 5-year Rum, and it needs to be padded. Otherwise, I’ll have a sticky and smelly mess once I get to Germany. I am going to put my camera lens into the bag as well, which means I need even more padding. Normally, I’d have an almost-empty suitcase on the return trip, but it is time to get some of the T-shirts and caps back to Europe, where I can find appreciative recipients. I’m not a baseball cap person, a trait inherited from my father.

I went to Trappas for an early dinner; all the other restaurants were closed.
