2024-04-26 Getting the committee boats ready

Not so early

As we’d been talking up top past midnight, I didn’t get up too early. But I’m sitting here typing and getting the framework for this page set up so that it can be fleshed out later.

We went ashore for work today. John headed up to the registration desks to assist and I was on our committee boat Margaritaville. As we had an experienced crew it didn’t take long to get everything sorted out and prepared for the upcoming races.

I chose to attend a very informative session on the rules of racing held by David Pelling.  It was interesting and I managed to get pretty much every single scenario interpreted incorrectly. There were many examples of different scenarios from racing that applied directly to the races at hand.

After work was done, we had to choose our dinner destination. I really wanted to sleep early but needed some sustenance. We chose to take the free shuttle bus up to the party at Dow’s Hill overlooking both harbours.

That turned out to have been an error. We purchased some drink tickets and food tickets so that we could get a pizza and then return. The pizza area turned out to be a small wood-fired pizza oven that could only bake one pizza at a time and after waiting over an hour we gave up and exchanged our food tickets for drink tickets (they refused to refund cash). Then we purchased some soft drink cans with the drink tickets, because with couple of drink purchases, we’d get a token that would go towards getting a free hat or T-Shirt. Then we got into the shuttle for the return trip.

That shuttle was the wrong one, it took us to the remote overflow parking area. Then we waited 10 minutes for the bus to return to our origin. And after waiting over a half-hour for a shuttle we gave up and took a taxi back. Not a good experience.

At Falmouth we went to a late dinner ashore before heading back to Zanshin.
