Sunrise

I awoke early to get a sunrise picture, but the sun rises just a couple of degrees past the hillside so all I can see is the slow lightening in the sky. Next time I’ll sleep in…

After taking care of some computer work and cleaning the dishes from the previous evening, I got into my rental steed and drove into town to do some provisioning. The roads are in better condition than on many islands, but they are twisty and narrow and steep and the drivers aren’t any different from any other islands in the rest of the windward and leeward chain. Some like playing “chicken” with oncoming traffic but I believe most of them are just oblivious to traffic rules and conventions in place elsewhere. I can adapt to those driving techniques. What I can’t do is locate those nefarious speed bumps before hitting them at speed! Very few of them have any paint left and some are strategically placed in the shade in order to surprise an unwary driver. I have developed a simple technique: drive behind somebody and slow when they slow.

My shopping only partially complete due to the empty shelves in the stores, I headed back to the cottage. The beach view at Paradise Beach was inviting and I stopped there for a bit and enjoyed the beach and the view. The clear waters invited me for a swim, but I’d neglected to bring a towel and extra shorts.

Continuing my homeward journey, I met Dougald in town (Hillsborough). We stopped for some lunch and talked for a while plus had an early happy-hour cold one. Or two.

Once back at the cottage I put up the string hammock and read my e-book on the Kindle for a while, snacking on some mixed nuts. I hate those things, it is impossible to have just one and I frequently find myself not being able to stop eating until the package is empty.

Dinner

Since I hadn’t found the vegetables and condiments I wanted, dinner was small and simple. I fried up some onions, minced meat, passata, and spices (including one bottle that had flames imprinted on it) to make my personal version of a Sloppy Joe.
