I can’t really say that I woke up early, I just transitioned from being awake in bed to being awake at the computer for another day at the office. The heavy meal combined with lots of rolling about at night prevented me from getting much quality sleep time.
Morning
The wind and waves are coming in from the ocean, but Zanshin is lying directly across from both. I think that there must be a current circulating in the anchorage that is keeping the boat broadside-to; there’s no other explanation. Other boats in the anchorage are pointing the “correct” way.
Regardless, it is distracting and uncomfortable. I need to hold cup and filter to make sure that the coffee-making process doesn’t turn into a big mess.
Afternoon
This isn’t fun today. The winds have changed and now the boat is pointed in the right direction, but there’s a bit of swell that slamming into the stern. not much, but enough to make the whole boat vibrate strongly. If it persists, I’m going to make the forward berth bed and sleep there. It is hard to describe the feeling, but the slams are loud, and strong enough to see in my cup of coffee as big ripples.
Happy Hour
I needed to go ashore and found a place called l’amer which had Belgian Affligem on tap, that was a beer I hadn’t tried yet. I returned home after sunset and made a small and tasteless dinner.
