2023-04-28 Hike to Fort Berkeley

The crew of committee “A” met aboard to prepare our catamaran for the upcoming races. This meant getting the flagpoles attached to the stanchions and attaching the flags to the poles (after making sure we weren’t missing any). Afterwards a hike to Fort Berkeley was on the agenda.

Then we had to stow our gear so that the important items remained accessible and did other preparatory work.

Once again Myron, Alex and myself departed the docks together and I wanted to combine a trip to Budge Marine for a new fuel line assembly with lunch. There’s a popular place called Roti Sue which I’d never visited before but which all the locals love. We stopped there for an excellent roti lunch and I’ll certainly be going back there in the future.

After taking care of shopping for parts we decided to continue on the main road and visit English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard Marina; as Myron hadn’t yet been there. The goal was a hike to Fort Berkeley. We proceeded to hike up to and back from the Fort in the hot and windstill conditions. We needed our rehydration afterwards!

Afternoon and Evening

We’d worked up an appetite during the hike to Fort Berkeley. Dinner as group was at Paparazzi and it was fantastic. We had a group of 8 in the end, including the overall Race Manager Jaime, the chief of the international jury, Neil and Alec plus Myron, myself and the representative of Locman Italy, one of the sponsors of the Antigua Sailing Week.
