Sunrise
I woke early and only belatedly realized that I’d decided not to go to my “dinghy-wrangling” work for the morning shift, just the afternoon shift! Oh well, since I’m up and about I can get started with coffee and work aboard Zanshin.
I did get a shot of both the sunrise and the Jeanneau 53 with the same hull color as I have, which anchored next to me sometime yesterday after I’d left my boat.
Morning
I’m just now cooking breakfast at 10:00, the first part is frying some bacon. If I can hold myself back, most of it will go into the fridge for future use. After breakfast I’ll make myself presentable and dinghy to my job at the Classic Yacht Regatta Day 2. I had just eaten my breakfast at 10:30 when I heard an announcement on the designated racing channel VHF77 that one of the boats was coming in to finish. That was surprisingly early, as I’d expected them to be out there at least another hour to hour and half before completing the 20 mile course.
But I took that as my start signal and quickly showered, shaved, dressed and got into my dinghy. I had a long trip upwind between Falmouth and English harbours ahead of me but the winds were very light in the anchorage so I wasn’t worried.
I should have been. The winds remained light outside, but the swell was still there. I could either get on plane and go fast, but that would give me significant air-time and crash landings on waves, so I went slower and barged through the waves. I did get some close-up shots of Mah Jong, though.
Noon
Safely inside English I reported for duty and found that the rest of the fleet would indeed taken another 1-2 hours before returning; the one boat was part of a small fleet doing a shortened race.
Once the racers started returning we were very busy for a couple of hours pushing boats about during their docking maneuvers and I managed to get my first real sunburn of the trip.
Afternoon and Evening
After our stint of being portable bow-thrusters, our work was finished for the day but we still hung around. They had Banks beer at the pub and I’d never tried it before. It was surprisingly good (either that or I was dehydrated and thirsty). I declined staying for the Tot club as I’d had enough and my sunburn was warming me up from skin inwards. I returned back to Zanshin on the dinghy, catching a sunset while passing Windward point. Back aboard I fried up a quick dinner with some of the filet chain pieces that I’d prepared accompanied by some rice.
