2023-04-01 The weekend is here

Morning
Anchorage in the morning and the weekend is here
Anchorage in the morning

The weekend is here and I’m sitting at the computer, drinking coffee and trying to plan my day. The boat is rolling in the swell, so cleaning the hull is not going to happen.  The winds have picked up, so I won’t be putting up the genoa sail, either.

The weekend is here and the dinghy bottom needs cleaning

I think I’ll do some provisioning ashore before the stores close. Most stores are closed on Sunday, so I need to take care of my errands today. Plus the swell is making it slightly uncomfortable aboard at the moment so I want to get ashore. I just noticed that the dinghy bottom needs some attention as well. I really need to lift the dinghy out of the water each night.

I took 2 jerry cans along to fill up on more diesel and once again the Island Waterworld fuel dock had run out. Next on my list was walking up to Ace Hardware and getting a cutting board and some stackable boxes. They had the former, but at $70 for a small and flimsy plastic contraption I decided to see if the internet might offer me something better.

I walked the long way back and stopped at Carl’s bakery for the first time. I had always seen the signs but had never entered.

Their lunchtime sandwich was perfect and delivered quickly. I took the long way around when returning to the boat and think I might check out the depths with my sounder later on today and enter the lagoon. That’ll be a lot calmer.

Afternoon

I’ve got to think of The Animals song “We gotta get out of this place” right now. Some of the tools just slid off the salon table in the rolling waves. I didn’t go diving to clean the propellor today, otherwise I’d seek somewhere close to shore or even go into the lagoon. The weather is going to stay the same for the next days, which means that conditions here in the anchorage will stay unchanged as well.

I barely made it ashore for the 5 o’clock opening and only a few vessels trickled in today. But the Dutch customs patrol boat exited with the bridge, so I chose to stay ashore longer then originally planned. They will board boats for inspections during the day, but generally won’t bother yachties at night. While I think I’ve got everything up-to-date for an inspection, I’d rather not waste an hour of my life while they trample around the boat and ask questions.

There was a special outbound opening at about 18:30 for the yacht Flag. She was particularly pretty as she transited in the dusk with all the interior lights on. I remained at the club for just a short while long before returning, unmolested, to Zanshin. I made a simple dinner and watched about 15 minutes of a movie before my PC got the blue screen of death again and I gave it up for the evening.
