2023-03-21 Waiting for my sail

I’m waiting for my sail to get repaired so that I can depart this anchorage. It is not the calmest of places, and quite busy during the day.

I awoke at 2AM to a crash sound and, after some searching, found that a dispenser in the galley had fallen over from the rolling. I thought that everything that could roll or fall had already done so, but was mistaken.

Morning

I had several video conferences in the morning and will need to replenish my coffee and milk supplies later today as I’ve drunk my last cup. Business has progressed and I’ve not had an opportunity to get up and stretch yet. I’ll also have to take a picture of the big catamaran that anchored directly upwind of me and is certainly too close and over my chain. Perhaps they are just there temporarily and waiting for the next inbound bridge opening.

Noon

The catamaran is still there, so it looks like they just don’t care about being on top of other people’s chain. Since I’m not intending on moving today I’m not too bothered.

When you have eliminated all which is impossible then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

– Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Thank you, Mr. Holmes. I had eliminated all the other possible sources of the freshwater leak. Only the washing machine connection remained to be checked. Once I’d disassembled the navigation station shelving and accessed the tubing below I found a spot which was wet – no, it was actually dripping!

There is a T-Junction in the hot water tubing that supplies the washing machine, and one of those connections was leaking. I had the water pressure turned off and cleaned the offending connection and reseated the O-ring. A dry washcloth wrapped around the connection will tell me if any water is still seeping. So far, after turning on the pump, it looks good. I’ll check again in 2-3 hours and will have to see if I can order a replacement for that connector.

Afternoon and Evening

Once again, I managed to arrive at Island Waterworld to fill up my 2 Jerry cans with diesel just after the station had closed. I was there at 4PM and the fuel dock was already locked up tight. That was quite frustrating.

At the SMYC I waited for the 5PM opening and found myself without a plan. Without a fixed goal, I walked up and down the main street. My fridge is still empty, so I grabbed a quick meal at the Tap & Still. Then returned to boat early. This was due to my forgetting to pack my flashlight. I didn’t want to risk travel at night with just the small tricolor on the outboard engine, that is dangerous.
