2023-03-02 Heineken Regatta Day 1

Morning
Heineken Regatta Day 1 on the Committee Boat
Committee boat “B”

We had to meet at the committee boat before 7AM for the Heineken Regatta Day 1.  I was a bit tired when I arrived, since I’d been rolling around at night aboard Zanshin. But everyone showed up for work and soon we’d cast off the docklines. The passage through the canal in the morning bridge was not eventful and we motored at speed towards our starting boat position. This is quite a ways out, and gives sufficient separation from the other fleet of boats.

Races
Open class starting

On this first day of the Heineken Regatta we were not yet welded together as a team and the starts were busy. Simon and I had to locate all the boats in the various classes to make sure that they were present and also started in their respective classes. So I don’t have quite as many pictures as I’d hoped. We managed to get through the whole day with 3 races in our classes with no mistakes. At least, no mistakes that the competitors were aware of. And all of those errors were corrected by the time the races were over.

Afternoon
Bridge opening Show

We returned on the 3PM bridge after our starts and finishes and I managed to dinghy across to the SMYC for the 5PM opening. For me the Heineken Regatta Day 1 was over and I could chat and socialize with the various racing crews. It was fun, but I noticed that by 7PM I was fading fast and decided to return to Zanshin and edit the day’s pictures.

I managed the first part but not the second…
