2023-02-06 Still windy in Grand Case

It’s still windy in Grand Case this morning, but the weather forecast shows that they will subside before tonight. At least the frontal boundary has passed and the skies are clear. I feel a bit sorry for the beaches on the windward side of the island as they have a huge amount of smelly Sargassum to deal with. This is causing significant harm to tourism in the Caribbean and so far no solution has been found.

Morning

I’ve been working non-stop since 6am and noon is fast approaching. I’m swimming in coffee after making a total of 3 batches of 400ml each; that should tide me over until 14:00 when I can call it a day in the office and decide what else to occupy my time with today.

Noon

I belatedly realized that I’m out of bread so I’m going to go without lunch today and go ashore later for dinner. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. It’s still windy in Grand Case and Zanshin is swinging around at anchor to the accompaniment of howling winds. But I’m optimistic that it will settle down later in the afternoon.

Afternoon

The winds have died down to normal Caribbean levels. Only occasional puffs augment the normal trades and I am looking forward to a settled night and uninterrupted sleep.

I had a number of computer tasks to take care of, so I’ve have postponed my boat jobs to mañana. Or the next day…

I went ashore just before sunset. Or at least I almost went ashore. The first problem was the recalcitrant dinghy outboard that didn’t want to start. I think it knew I hadn’t done any exercise and decided to let me get an aerobic workout on the pull starter.

And once it started and zipped across to the dock I saw that it was high tide and that there was a significant swell. Some of the dinghies were on short tethers and in danger of going under the dock. As I’d not brought along my anchor I returned to the boat and decided to make dinner aboard.
