Morning

The dinghy, without the engine, had flipped over the night before but we’d not taken any pictures before righting it. During our morning coffee break a strong gust flipped it again and this time we managed to get some proof before fixing the problem.

After righting it, Sascha and I got the outboard and fuel tank aboard. This made it heavy enough to withstand gusts. Anse Marcel and Grand Case were next on the agenda. We departed the anchorage at Ile Fourchue and set 2 reefs in both sails for the short sail north to Ile Tintamarre.

Proudly displaying our yellow “Q-Flag”, we pointed Zanshin north upon leaving sheltered waters. With a good 6 knots speed we sailed up to the leeward side of Tintamarre and found only 2 sailboats and a powerboat there. The mooring balls looked sufficiently maintained, so we grabbed one and made breakfast.

I saw the swell and waves, but didn’t pay enough attention. When we headed ashore we got swamped by a wave at the beach line and took on a lot of water; plus we all got wet. After Sandra and Sascha got off, I took the dinghy a bit further out and used the anchor to fix it, then swam ashore.

The sand at Tintamarre is wonderfully soft and we walked up and down the beach for a while. We enjoyed the vista and sounds of waves crashing ashore. Once we’d had enough, we all swam to the dinghy and clambered aboard.

The downwind sail from Tintamarre to Anse Marcel was fast, but the waves were from directly aft and I was worried about swamping the dinghy. Fortunately, that didn’t happen. As an added bonus, we had a short visit from dolphins. They left just as I was getting my camera ready.

Entering the shallow Anse Marcel anchorage was easy this time around, as I had our previous tracks to follow on the chartplotter. After anchoring we went ashore to eat at Blue Sail hotel again – and it was just as good the second time around!

I cleared us in at 14:30, after the Capitainerie had opened again and we subsequently returned to Zanshin. The final stage of our trip was to go around the corner to Grand Case. And, as luck would have it, the genoa sail wrapped and tore on the last couple of kilometers!

No more waffling about and postponing my replacement purchase – this is an ex-sail, if  it weren’t hoisted up, it would be pushing up the daisies (see the  Dead parrot sketch).

Anse Marcel and Grand Case had been reached. It was time to have a final meal ashore, and we opted for a LoLo for a filling, tasty and inexpensive final repast.

I’d not slept well the night before and once in my bed I only managed to read one paragraph of my book before capitulating. I turned off the lights and was asleep soon thereafter.
