My first conference call was a 06:00 and I had to turn on all lights to sufficiently illuminate me. All my counterparts were closing in on their lunch break and I’d timed badly and was calling without a coffee. Today is going to be office work and generator fixes.
This week marks the return to office for most colleagues and the remote office is getting busy with meetings and tasks. But although I’d like to complain, I know how good I have it when I see all those sweaters, jackets and other winter gear on the screen. I’ve got a different background image daily, but these are all set in Europe to obfuscate my real location. Not that it is a secret, considering my AIS position is being updated every 10 minutes or so:)
Lunch
I just took my first break of the day and decided to work on the generator today and perform some quick tests. Hopefully they will let me figure out what is preventing it from starting. I’ve got the cover removed.
- Tested the fuel pump to see if it is working at pushing diesel fuel into the engine during priming. It is doing its job.
- Removed the return hose at the fuel tank and see if priming moves fuel all the way back to the tank. It does.
The starter battery was a bit low, so I hooked it up to the engine starter and cranked for bit. It fired up, but ran very roughly and only while the “starter” switch was held down.
I removed and checked the fuel cut-off solenoid. That is working correctly as well.
Evening
I went ashore for dinner at Paparazzi and need to get to sleep early in order to be up and about for my 04:00AM conference call.
