Waves and wrong wind
I’m going to do home office from the Caribbean today, but I’ll be a bit tired while doing so. Not only did the boat roll around last night, but there’s a very annoying loud squeak associated with certain twisting movements. That was loud and bothersome enough to keep me awake or at least prevented me from deep sleep. I’ll get the stethoscope out of my medical kit and see if I can locate which two boards are making this noise. Then I can decide if a bit of soap or a bit of glue or perhaps even just tightening some screws will suffice.
Dawn
I got up early and logged into the office. Due to the 5-hour time difference I already had a number of e-mails waiting in my inbox and needed to sort out some production issues in the data warehouse that had arisen over the weekend. But anything is better than going back and repairing the toilet 🙂
This page’s main picture above was taken by me at sunrise here in St. Lucia. A work colleague responded by sending me a picture of his drive to work this morning, taken in the Harz area of Lower Saxony. I like my view much better.
I’ve got to make a presentation with a video but am having some technical issues in getting that done, perhaps I should get some real software and not rely on what is provided as part of Windows 11.
Morning
I just ordered a Starlink RV satellite internet system. Thank you, Mr. Musk. This should be a game changer for home office in the Caribbean, or anywhere else.
What I didn’t know until after I pulled the trigger was that it could take up to 14 days to ship; in today’s world of instant gratification, I must admit that I expected it to ship the same day. I’ve still got about 2 weeks of pre-paid SIM internet and if I don’t go overboard watching movies and limit myself to work and posting on this site, I should be OK.
Afternoon
After completing my video conference calls, I zipped ashore to see about getting a repair kit for the stand-up paddleboard and some crazy glue for the Soda Stream. All I found for the former was a huge tin which would last me for years of repairs. The glue was easier to find.
I glued the Soda Stream parts together and let them cure. Then I added more crazy glue and wrapped a paper towel around the seam to make a powerful seal. Despite this, I was surprised when the repair actually worked!
Evening
After 2 days of winds from the west the swell is building and becoming more regular. I wanted to go swimming of the back of the boat, but the waves are too much to make it comfortable. I’ll just shower aboard tonight. And stay aboard, seeing if my BBQ still works to cook some of the Bratwursts that I’ve been thawing out since this morning.
