Arnd

2022-04-17 Lazy Sunday

I did a lot of nothing today, and some minor tasks and somehow the day went by awfully quickly.

I got up at 06:00 with the sun and made coffee using the beans I’d brought and a French press. Using the Hoffmann method meant that the brew was quite good and missing those crunchy bits and dark sludge that the brewing method entails. But it does require a bit of patience, particularly in the morning and prior to the first caffeine of the day.

The picture frame I’d hung up with those removable velcro strips had fallen, the strips dried out and became brittle and the backing glue no longer worked. I used new strips to re-attach the picture and then realized that the copper pelican was still up – after several years and that those strips had survived even hurricane Irma without delaminating!

I want to clean the forward cabins, but they are full of the cockpit cushions and solar panels. I don’t want to put the cushions out until the cockpit gelcoat has been cleaned  and waxed and I had negotiated with Vision to have him do that for me – despite me preferring to do the work myself. And he won’t be coming until Tuesday, so I’ll have to wait until then to do that work.

Dirty diesel from Racor filter

I ran the diesel and checked my dual filters, finding one with quite a bit of sludge that needed to be drained. Apart from that the engine ran smoothly and I anticipate no issues going north next week.

I had purchased some ground beef and although I had originally planned on heading ashore for dinner, I didn’t want this meat to go to waste, so I put it into a pan and seared it. Then some onions and garlic and passata to make a Bolognese sauce (a la Arnd). It is bubbling away on the stove right now and I’m not sure if I’ll just have some Sloppy Joe without paste or boil pasta for dinner. I’m tired, so I fear it’ll be the former with some bread for dinner tonight.
