2016 Trip 2016-04-21

I’d forgotten how far it is from Deep Bay to Falmouth and didn’t make it to the anchorage until the early afternoon. My first attempt at anchoring had me drag, but the second try worked and I got the dinghy engine back on in short order and went ashore. Customs and Immigration was in English Harbour and I soon had those formalities behind me and went to the AYC (Antigua Yacht Club); where I was corralled by Hans and we headed back to English Harbour to pick up the second Committee Boat catamaran. We had a bit of fun getting going, as the anchor had fouled a mooring line and after sorting that out we were soon back at the dock in front of the AYC.

While prepping the boat I was some activity at the distant dinghy dock in the area where I’d locked up my dinghy and went over to see what was going on. It turns out that my dinghy and another were locked up in an (unmarked) area reserved for a local boat cleaning operation and they’d just used bolt cutters to cut my lock. It was a bit funny since I was standing looking down at the cut lock and the dive operators asked me if I knew whose dinghy it was and they were surprised when I stated that “It’s mine” but their defensive expostulations and postures soon stopped when they saw me shrug my shoulders and tell them that I didn’t like that old rusty lock anyway… they offered to replace the lock with one they had but I said it was O.K. but that they should mark “their” dock area so people like me would know that they are trespassing.

We had the volunteer meeting in the late afternoon and it was accompanied by a fine meal from Club Sushi next door. The next day was the Guadeloupe to Antigua race, and the day after that was the Around-The-Island race which would be started and finished from ashore, so we had 2 days to prepare our committee boats and our next official get-together was scheduled for Saturday morning.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
