There’s little to see for today’s post since I spent all of my waking hours on passage between St. Barths and Antigua. I hadn’t been able to check the detailed weather and thought that the winds had remained the same so I planned on a close-hauled run in light trades and waves to Antigua. This would be about 85 miles in total and I departed at 06:00 but the winds had veered and my course was a good 15° off. This meant that I had a very long run, almost past Antigua, before tacking and doing the final miles to the island. Unfortunately, when I did the tack I was still about 20 miles away and sunset was approaching. I gave up on sailing and turned on the engine for the last 2 hours, and changed my destination from Falmouth Harbour, which can get very crowded, to Deep Bay, which was closer and seldom crowded. I arrived at around 20:00 and there were only 4 other boats in the anchorage so finding a spot and dropping the hook was not as stressful as I had feared. The boat had been going to weather for a long time, so was covered in salty spray and I’m really hoping for a good long rain shower to assist me in washing off all that salt.
I had a celebratory post-passage frothy beverage and fried up a thawed burger on the BBQ for dinner before showering and dropping off to sleep after the long day.
