St. Lucia
I chose to store Zanshin in St. Lucia at the Rodney Bay Marina for summer break this season rather than returning to Tyrell Bay on Carriacou. In part this was due to my fresh coat of hard bottom paint, but mainly it was because I could use some of my frequent-flier miles from United Airlines to fly up to the USA from St. Lucia while I couldn’t do that in Grenada.
This turned out to be a lucky decision for me, as hurricane Beryl devastated Carriacou and the boatyard, leaving most houses damaged and every boat in the yard either destroyed or toppled. I don’t think that Zanshin would have survived a second bout with a hurricane.
Newport-Bermuda Race
After storing Zanshin at the marina, I flew to the USA to participate in the 2024 Newport-Bermuda Race. In addition to the race, I helped deliver the boat from Norfolk to Newport and then sailed back to Norfolk from Bermuda as well.
Germany
After completing the race and deliveries in early July, I continued onwards to Germany. Here I’ll remain on my extended summer break until it is time to return to the Caribbean sunshine.
Site Maintenance
I’m using the break in writing daily blog posts to revisit the pages on the website and do general maintenance. This involves cleaning up non-blog pages and updating them. I’ve also removed the German language version, as most of the visitors were bots and not the actual target audience (humans). The pages are still there, but no longer actively maintained or linked to and the menu has been reverted to the original English one.
