Annapolis Boat Show in the United States of America
Zanshin at the Annapolis Boat Show

Zanshin was used as a demonstrator at the 2011 Annapolis Boat show. She was commissioned in the United States of America rather than somewhere in Europe. I picked her up and sailed her down to the Caribbean with 2 friends.

Since then, I’ve been back to mainland once with Zanshin. I have been to the USVI several times, though. After getting damaged in Hurricane Irma, I shipped Zanshin to Newport and then motored back south to Annapolis where she was repaired and recommissioned. Then I made the same pilgrimage back south.

The east coast is a wonderful cruising ground that I hope to explore in depth sometime. While the USA might be home of the free and land of the brave, foreign boats are view with suspicion and the USA has the strictest of cruising rules of any country that I’ve been to. Every boat movement, nominally even from one slip to another, needs to be called in to CBP at the end of the day. Noncompliance can cost thousands of dollars and the cruising permit getting revoked.

I’ve done a bit of additional cruising up and down the coast on Challenge Accepted as part of the delivery/races in the 2022 and 2024 Newport-Bermuda Races.
