The Caribbean Island of Dominica

Dominica is an English island sandwiched between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It is one of poorer nations in the island chain and has relatively little developed tourist infrastructure. In addition, it isn’t a huge cruise ship destination, and the northern port of Portsmouth is too far from the capital of Roseau to see much traffic.

All of these factors help in making it one of my favourite destinations. There are kilometres of hiking paths, wonderful waterfalls and the strong rainfall means that there’s a veritable cornucopia of fresh produce available.
The people are friendly, crime is at a tolerable level and the boat boys in Portsmouth, PAYS, do a good job of organizing and patrolling the anchorage.
