The docks were busy today, particularly those where the local powerboats are located and there was a lot of boat traffic going into and out of the marina; but the slip next to mine on the starboard side had been vacated the night before and remained empty. I used this to get out my AwlCare cleaning solution and prepared a bucket, rag and chamois to remove some of the deposits from the hull. I washed the topsides from the deck and got into the dinghy and did some serious scrubbing followed with a wash down and subsequent drying with the chamois cloth to get a nice shine on the starboard side. The German charter boat on the port side will be leaving tomorrow and I’ll get that side of Zanshin done then.
I had thawed out my braising beef overnight and sliced that up to put into the slow cooker. Instead of a full sauce, I just added some spices and bouillon cubes and let the meat slow-cook all day so make a simple stew sauce and some very tender beef for the freezer.
I attacked my windlass remote control problem in the afternoon; the remote control works but the chain counter doesn’t which means that the remote switches off after a couple of seconds with an error message of “No Sensor”. My suspicion that the magnet used for the reed contact was clogged with metal shavings and rust was correct, but after removing the rust and cleaning the windlass base it still didn’t work so I had to get out my replacement sensor kit and see if that would solve the problem. After a lot of work and climbing into and out of the anchor locker several times to access the wiring underneath the windlass I did get the new sensor reed switch to work. But after replacing everything and soldering the new connections the system was once again inoperative and the sun was setting so I had to postpone project completion for tomorrow.
I decided that tonight I’d watch a movie on the computer and opted for a television series called “Person of Interest” which I binge-watched for 3 episodes, all the while consuming some bread and cold-cuts for dinner along with a glass or two of red wine.
