We got going a bit faster than usual today; even though I’d tried to make some large omelettes for us and had made a bit of a mess in the galley. Luckily, the dishwasher is my friend and we were packed up for a day in town and at the beach by 10:30 or so. The dinghy ride across to the dock at Le Bourg was fast (and dry), since I’ve decided that the dinghy engine is now broken in far enough to allow us to plane for most of the trip. While Sandra and Sascha rented a scooter for the day I walked on ahead and up the hill to Fort Napoleon. I arrived just as they did and we spent the next hour looking at the exhibits in the museum and walking around the well-kept grounds. The views from atop the hill are impressive and certainly afforded a great vantage point to spot potential aggressors back in the days before radio and radar. We managed to complete our rounds just as the museum closed at 12:30 and headed back down into town.
I’d thought to clear out at the LSM coffee shop, but had forgotten that it, along with most of France, still shuts down between 12:00 and 14:00 so we continued on to the beach at Krawen. There were just a handful of people there, probably because it is the most distant of beach on the main island; but the sand was soft and water was warm. After a bit of swimming and enjoying the sun’s rays we headed back into town in order to get some further provisioning done and return the rental moped. We returned to “Zanshin” in time for happy hour libations and after dark we showered and returned to Le Bourg for dinner at “La Fringale” across from the dinghy dock. Sascha’s meal was a steak which he said was like chewing on shoe soles, but Sandra’s tuna and my duck were quite tasty and I figure that 2 out of 3 isn’t too bad; plus I gave Sascha my Crème Brûlée as slight recompense.
