Today was a lot of moving heavy rusty metal around. The amount of rust flaking off the first 150 feet of chain was incredible. The bottom of the chain locker was covered in over an inch of rust flakes! I’d heard from another Jeanneau purchaser who’d had the same chain and had it replaced under warranty because of bad quality but I waited too long to do the same and the warranty was out. Instead of the G4 quality chain I’d ordered I received cheap Chinese chain (marked correctly, but evidently not the same). I laid out the first portion of good chain and have about 250 feet, so I borrowed a flex and removed the first 150 feet of badly corroded links. It took me a lot of sweat and muscle power to get the little coloured link indicators into the chain, plus some work inside the chain locker to put the rust into buckets (I think it was about 50lbs of rust all told!) and clean out the locker. I was beat and a bit dehydrated despite drinking 4 litres while working but I used happy hour to replenish the liquids with some Presidente beer.
