Although it might border on blasphemy, I think I’m going to enjoy a night ashore with bed on terra-firma. The waves washed around the corner last night and winds died, so once again Zanshin and contents got rolled around a night and I didn’t get deep sleep after about 03:00 so I’m a bit grumpy this morning. The coffee supplies are about to run out, which is one reason why I did the run up to St. Martin rather than head directly for the BVI from Gaudeloupe or Nevis. After I clear in at customs later on I’ll walk to the store selling the Nespresso pods at Hope Estate and stock up on suffient pods to keep me going for another week.
4 hours to replace the d****d impellor on the genset! And now I need a new part, a small gasket for the heat exchanger, before I can use the generator again… I really wish I could make one of the engineers from Jeanneau do this job as access is very tight and difficult. A task that would normally take me less than 30 minutes has dragged on and on. While the impeller change ended up being easy, the blades on the old one had broken off and I needed to access the heat exchanger to get the broken blades removed. Easier said than done, since the oil filter at the bottom of the engine needs to be removed in order to access the heat exchanger… Oh well, I needed to do an oil change anyway… but access to the old filter is so tight that I needed to puncture the filter to turn it and puncturing isn’t that easy when you only have about 5cm to deal with! In the end I got the parts removed, but when I ran the system after putting everything back together there was a leak an it seems that the old gasket is leaking for the exit side of the heat exchanger and I can’t fix it. So I’ve turned off the water to the genset and will most likely have to do a trip to Electec, the Cummins/Onan dealer on the island, tomorrow. I’m not happy!
