Once again the winds were up in the anchorage and since I cannot reach the halyard flying in the wind with my makeshift extension (two boat hooks tied together) I can’t depart under sail. If the winds were to die down and let the line hand downwards instead of being blown aft, I could reach it and pull it down all the way. I had hoped that the winds would settle in the late afternoon or in the very early morning, but that has not been the case quite yet.
I worked on the Arduino monitor project again today. I have the system logging merrily away, but spent hours unsuccessfully trying to send a message to the Xantrex – all I got were NACKs The documentation might be somewhat erroneous and I am going to give it up for the moment since I only want to send a message to the Xantrex in order to get a full dump of the settings and I really don’t need to do that.
In the late afternoon the constant winds and boat movement at anchor bothered me and I headed ashore, walking up the hill on the north side of the anchorage to visit the old hilltop fortification, Fort Barrington. It was a welcome respite from the constant howling and “hunting” at anchor that the gusty winds produce.
